Finding Your Sound: Exploring Sound Design and Hardware Selection.
For our final project, we will develop a song using the Ableton Live 9 Suite. The viewer will be walked through the process of adding synth sounds, and we” probably begin where the first tutorial video left off. Other multimedia elements we will incorporate include sound clips for viewers to check their progress as they go, pictures of music production hardware (maybe in a carousel), and a written story. There should also be links to outside resources pertinent to the project, and if time permits, a shorter video demonstrating the Leap Motion in action with Ableton Live 9.
By the end of the video, the user will have created a basic song outline which they can play with and learn from.
For our first video project Max and I will be going to the new restaurant in town called The Stage.
We will interview the owner or a manager of the restaurant as well as a performer that we will film playing. We may also interview a few customers to see what they think of the restaurant.
We will have the sound of the interview, our narration and background noise of whatever is going on while we are there.
After I signed up for an account on IReport, I took a look around the site and looked at some of the stories. I love the idea of IReport because it gives everyone a chance to be a reporter and to get their own stories out. I like that most stories will be different then the ones on the news we see everyday, I looked at two that really stuck to my mind because they were interesting and put together well. The first is about a singer who lost 60 pounds. This one stuck in my mind because it was on a normal person who we wouldn’t normally hear about yet IReport let the story out anyway. The other story was on a boat full of refugees rescued by the U.S. This stuck to me because the photos were from a 14 year old, who wants to be a photographer. I think it is a great way for people like him to get their name out there while also telling a story.
slideshow without sound
This Slideshow “Whats Killing Your Brand” is on what brands do wrong to keep their products from selling. I really liked this because they really played with text and photography. I liked that they were funny with the text while also giving info, and they kept changing the text to keep it new. surprisingly no noise didn’t keep me from enjoying the slideshow
slideshow with noise
http://www.theguardian.com/uk/audioslideshow/2013/apr/12/skateboarders-south-bank-audio-slideshow
This slideshow “Skateboarders On Lyndon’s South Bank” was of course about skateboarders in London. I liked that they had a lot of different people talking so they had a shot of the speaker when they started talking. I also liked that they started and ended with music. Surprisingly this showed me that a slideshow does not have to have sound to be entertaining because the other slideshow had nothing yet it kept me just as entertained.
Photo Gallery
This photo gallery is great. I really enjoy war photos because you get to feel what war is like.I really like. I really liked that they explained what is going on in the photos. some music could be used to make it even more emotional.
If you eat at Stevens Dining Hall, you’ve probably seen Garrett Labarge in a Sodexo uniform. But this friendly student has another talent.
For this week’s show on the LSC Band Show with Richie and Max, we interviewed lead guitarist and singer of the LSC band Red Tin Box, Garrett Labarge.
Labarge came to LSC from a small town in Maine where he started his song writing. He kept some of the songs he wrote in high school to re-make with the band, including “Life Goes” which turned out to be the graduation song for his high school class which he says was a “huge touching moment.”
The band started when Labarge met two new friends in his freshmen year of college at LSC. He met Bass and Lead guitarist of the band, Andrew Fahle while living together in the same suite. He then found the Banjo player, Michael Mahn when a high school friend showed the talent Mahn had. The three also happened to be in the same class bringing them together with a project that started it all.
At their last show at Parker Pie in West Glover Vt. on Saturday, the band added a drummer to the mix, Tom Shahan who is from another LSC band called the Bible Camp Sleepovers. Labarge is very excited to have a drummer in the band and says their music will be “totally new” adding more of a beat which people like to get up and dance to.
Labarge also talked to us about his favorite venues he has played at in their tour, as well as his favorite songs on the album, which you can hear him talk about in our podcast.
At the end of the interview, Garrett began to talk about the school’s support of the Red Tin Box tour, but decided against it for the time being due to its controversial nature. Look for the story on dormroomproducer.com next week.
